I saw a friend’s picture in a random photo album, and a few girls, for no good reason decided to post negative comments about it (and on further review, one girl just happened to go through most of the photo and leave nothing but nasty remarks on cosplay pics). I don’t get it. What makes people entitled to think they can say such nasty things publicly? This wasn’t even an anonymous board like 4chan, she actually left a comment on Facebook with (what I can only assume) was her real name. Where is civility? What happened to “if you don’t have something nice, don’t say it at all?” What is so wrong with this girl’s self esteem that she felt the need to belittle other people? There is something seriously messed up in our society, and we’ve all known it for awhile, but it really upsets me to see it so shoved in my face all the time online. People should learn to be better, nicer, kinder. It also needs to start with us costumers. I’m about done with the negativity we have in subculture, and I’d like to see people take a stand against it. Do me a favor, at the next convention you go to, make a point to go and compliment someone’s costume. Not a famu-cosplayer who always does things right, but find someone who is young, less experienced than you, and say something encouraging about their outfit, their poise, or their attitude. I challenge you, readers, to do this. Change the world, our world, one costumer at a time.
